presidents day.

So I have decided to start blogging a bit about the happenings in the classroom and life as a teacher. I figure since this is a "journal" type deal for me and that is where the majority of my time is spent, it only make sense to add that in. Also, first grade is just fun and first graders are funny. I hope I can capture a bit of my experience here.

So, here's to Presidents Day! Hooray for no school on Monday and hooray for fun things to teach my kiddo's. We learned all about voting and how we vote for a President. We talked about how not everyone's vote wins but you respect everyone's votes. I made the ballot box and we have been putting it to use, voting on such things as what activity to do for P.E. and what snack we are going to have for "Snack and Share" which is a book club I do on Fridays. Anyway, they think it's pretty cool.

SO I stalk a lot of incredible teachers in search of inspiration. I found this great idea here. It was basically a slideshow of a bunch of National Monuments. We talked about each, where it is and a cool fact about it like how much it weighs or what it is made out of. My kids were FASCINATED. The writing activity turned out so much better than I anticipated so that is always exciting. They had to pick which National Monument they would visit and then say WHY. Here are a few to look at :)
