So many of you know that tomorrow is Dr. Seuss Day! Well, it's his birthday tomorrow so we are celebrating all week in first grade. Tonight in preparation for an activity on Friday, Kelsey and Taylor made us some OOBLECK. They were so nice to help me out! I'll be honest, it took twice as long thanks to their 6 year old tendencies (they played with it for like 30 minutes). This isn't a novel idea in the teacher world, everybody does it, but I'm excited to see how it goes. I am hoping I can train my kids well so we don't make a mess....
DOUBLE STUFF
My friend and co-worker Carrie had this idea of teaching "doubles facts" (1+1, 2+2, etc.) by using Oreo's. We talked about knowing our "double stuff" and then there is a rap about it. The kids cut out the pages of the rap, put them in order, and we stapled them inside 2 brown "Oreo" papers. The facts/rap are the "stuff" in the middle. Our kids have been working to pass off their double stuff by memorizing the facts. When they do, they get a DOUBLE STUFF OREO and my kids put their name on a sticker on a board that says "I Know My Double Stuff!" Pretty fun stuff if you ask me. They love it.
LUCKY ME
Today I was admiring the lovely bookshelves Taylor built for me back in August. He surprised me with the color coordinated and perfectly measured for my classroom shelves along with "Jungle themed" picture books to warm up the space. I cried. I still think back on that day often and remember how wonderful he is. I feel so LUCKY to have his support in my teaching career. He has put up with a whole bunch of tears, stress, and perfectionist tendencies at their fullest. He has been the perfect little hubby, friend, shoulder to cry on, and ear to listen. I love him.
In case you weren't lucky enough to see these yet, here you go!
